#60 - Port Erin, Isle of Man
The Isle of Man, is a tiny island which lies between England and Ireland. Many believe it is a part of the United Kingdom, but it is not.
The two official languages are English and one if it's dialects, Manx English. Some random words in English and Manx Enlish:
chimney - chymlee
drink - jough
Isle of Man - Ellan Vannin

Interesting Manx-English.
ReplyDelete"Chimbley" is found in much of the north of England, particularly in Lancashire where it is(was) a regularly heard dialect word. Though I suspect the use is dying out as ghastly "Estuary" english sweeps through the UK, destroying a beautiful language!
I wonder what you would call the English that we speak here in North America :| lol!
